  PIOTR SURMACKI

My story

I combine unique business experience with in-depth knowledge of technology and internet marketing.

First steps with computers

My adventure with computers started at the end of the 80s, when I got my first ZX81 computer. Those were times when there was not yet an endless number of games and applications that could be uploaded to the computer.

In those days if you wanted to have something on your computer you had to create it yourself. I started from rewriting programs and games from Bajtek magazine.

Unfortunately the ZX81 had no permanent memory so when the power went out everything had to be started from scratch. I'm sure these experiences influenced my character 😉 .

Later there was the ZX Spectrum, on which you could already load programs. For this purpose, you needed a tape recorder Kasprzak. In those days cassettes with programs were bought on computer exchanges (it wasn't very legal, but those were the times).

At the beginning of the 90s, the first PCs started to appear in Poland and here I went all the way from the first versions of XT, AT, up to the Pentium-based station.

This was all in the days when the Internet was still in its infancy, so the pinnacle of this was connecting to university servers around the world.

Computer graphics

When I was still in high school I worked for a local printing house, for which I did DTP, using the first versions of CorelDRAW and Page Maker. While folding newspapers I gained a lot of knowledge about printing and composition.

At that time I also set up a small graphic studio where I did various small graphic commissions for my clients. From business cards, to company folders, to advertising posters. All this while I was still in high school.

Marketing, Management & Behavioural Psychology

However, I did not choose Computer Science as my field of study at the Technical University, but Management and Marketing at the Poznan University of Economics (now University of Economics).

At that time, however, I started working as a programmer in the IT department for Era GSM (now T-Mobile Poland). So my education developed in two ways. Professionally, I was always associated with technology, but my studies gave me a look at everything from the business side.

At that time I also attended lectures at SWPS as a free listener. I was interested in everything connected with psychology and the creation of human behaviour.

My interest in the psychology of human behaviour was linked to my other fascination, namely artificial intelligence. I have always noticed the similarity between how a computer works and how a human system works.

The book that most influenced my perception of this subject matter was 'Kłamię więc jestem' written by Dr Tomasz Kozłowski. In it, he conducts research on preschool children and tries to establish what self-awareness is.

The first practical application of the knowledge I gained in the field of artificial intelligence was the implementation of an email processor by Fido Interactive for the Heyah project in T-Mobile. Thanks to this solution we have automated replies to over 90% of emails from the operator's customers.

First serious business

In 2002 I founded Telecom Media S.A., which distributed multimedia content (logos, ringtones, etc.) for mobile phones.

We also organised various types of SMS competitions. At first for radio stations and newspapers, and then we started to serve the biggest programmes on national TV stations.

While running this business I also gained my first experience in working with investors. The company's shareholders included the MCI Investment and BBI Capital funds. In 2012 the MCI fund floated the company on the WSE / NewConnect.

There were millions of SMS messages going through our servers, and the main thing we were focused on was coming up with more ways to engage consumers in fun.

Girls in bikinis

Running SMS competitions was the best marketing school I could receive at the time. You could immediately see what worked and what didn't.

Thanks to the cooperation with Polsat TV I could implement and test my concepts on a mass scale. This is how one of our hits "Girls in bikinis" was created on Polsat TV.

Technology in advertising management

In 2009 I founded WAY2TRAFFIC Polska S.A., which provided advertising management technology for the largest advertisers in Poland.

Our ad tracking codes were embedded in major internet portals. At its peak, our technology served every fifth advertisement display on the Polish Internet.

Bringing more than 6,000 companies online

When I started playing with technology for managing advertising on the Internet, it was mainly available for large advertisers. At the time, I thought it would be nice if small and medium-sized companies could use it to effectively get orders and new customers from the Internet.

This is how Fachowcy.pl Ventures S.A. was established, which has built a package of marketing services available to small and medium-sized companies. Over 6,000 entrepreneurs have benefited from our services.

Growth Marketing & Automation

Having built marketing services for over 6,000 clients in a variety of industries, I have gained unique experience. I know what works and how to approach the issue to deliver it in the most effective way.

These experiences have allowed me to build my own methodology in building a stable and predictable business using technology and marketing tools.

The book "Stable and predictable business"

How I made all the mistakes possible when running my company

In 2019, I wrote a book entitled. "A stable and predictable business". In it I describe my business experiences and lessons learned from all the major failures I have experienced.

I also run a series of online marketing training courses called WEB™ Academy. In these courses, I teach how to use my proprietary Sustainable Business methodology for building and implementing a marketing strategy.

My business adventure is still in the process of being written....

Every good presentation should end with a Steve Jobs quote 😉 And here is the quote I most identify with.

You can't connect the dots by looking into the future; you can only connect them by looking back. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust something - your gut feeling, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never failed me and has changed my entire life.
Steve Jobs

You can't plan everything but by gathering different experiences in life we build who we are. My experiences allow me to be a growth marketer and help my clients scale their businesses online.
